  • Snowboard Mountaineering I Shasta Snowboard
    We are excited to offer this new program for the aspiring snowboard mountaineer.  You will learn and apply the skills necessary to ride in the alpine back country, and be challenged with a Shasta summit climb and descent from the Cascade Volcano.  We'll discuss terrain, route planning, climbing skills and equipment; all while enjoying the endless bowls on Shasta's south and west sides.  The 2008 season is bringing plenty of snow to Shasta, come up to extend your season and enjoy spring and summer corn
    No prerequisites.

    Skills covered include: snow camping/travel; avalanche hazard assesment, avoidance and rescue; uphill techniques(skinning and ice axe/crampon/ basic rope use on ascent and descent); condition/ terrain appropriate descent techniques.

  • If you are a resort skier looking beyond the boundaries to find the fresh snow, this is the place to start. The day will be a discussion and practice of the skills necessary for you to experience the joy of backcountry skiing and boarding. Randonne, telemark, or splitboard gear; skinning, powder seeking, avalanche awareness, etc will all be discussed as we travel through the snow covered Mount Shasta Backcountry

  • A climb and ski/board descent is one of North Americas greatest adventures. The three day seminar provides time for skills development and conditions assessment en route to the summit ride.   The trip finale is an alpine start and high altitude turns that  you will never forget! Strong skiing skills required.

  • Mt. Shasta offers endless opportunities for exciting backcountry skiing. Conditions are optimal December - June for day tours from the Bunny Flat trailhead at 7,000'.  Tours can be suited for all levels through winter and spring. Scheduling is open, depending on weather. All trips can be custom suited to match the abilities and desires of the group or individual


    All-day beginning Randonee/Telemark ski lesson and tour:
    by special arrangement.
    Fee: $125 per person, 2-8 people, $300 for private.

  •      This is an introductory lecture that also serves as a great refresher for anyone with prior avalanche training. Topics covered include recognizing snow & weather factors that create avalanche conditions, identifying avalanche terrain, understanding avalanche warning signs, what to do if you are caught in an avalanche and how to perform an immediate avalanche rescue within your group. Avalanche Basics are a must for anyone planning to ski, snowmachine, snowshoe, snowboard or hike on the slopes or in the side canyons surrounding our area.

    Presenter will be Eric White from the USDA Forest Sevice Mt. Shasta Avalanche Center.

  • Shasta Mountain Guides, along with the U.S. Forest Service and The Friends of the Mt Shasta Avalanche Center, are pleased to offer these free half day  transceiver clinics.  Demo equipment is available or bring your own.   The clinic is free, we ask you to consider a donation to the non profit Friends of Mt Shasta Avalanche Center.
